Highway 212 north of Belle Fourche closed after crash involving military explosives

CARTER CO. MT – According to the Power River Sheriff’s Office, Highway 212 is closed because of a multi-vehicle accident involving military explosives.

6:32 p.m. Authorities say Highway 212 is now open.

Mile marker 107 between Alzada and Broadus, MT  has been closed until further notice. Authorities say a truck carrying military explosives was involved in the crash.

According to the Powder River Sheirff’s Office on Facebook, “We still do not have any timeline on 212 reopening. At this time the military is working on the explosives and getting prepped to detonate some of them. We are unsure of the location of these detonations, but will be in the Hammond area. Until these explosives are removed or detonated, no other cleanup will take place. Please be patient as this is a delicate operation and could take quite a bit more time.”

The Powder River County Sheriff’s Office also says tickets are being written for those running the barricades.
