High speed chase in Fall River ends in crash

FALL RIVER, SD — Early Sunday afternoon, Fall River Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted South Dakota Highway Patrol in a motor vehicle pursuit.

According to the Fall River Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit started on Highway 79 and continued on Highway 18 to Oelrichs. The suspect vehicle turned east on highway 18 at Oelrichs.

A deputy attempted to deploy spike strips and the suspect vehicle lost control and traveled straight towards the deputy and his patrol car.

The deputy was able to jump down the ditch away from the oncoming vehicle before the suspect vehicle crashed into the back of the deputy’s patrol car. Deputies and the state trooper were able to pull the suspect out of his burning vehicle to safety.

The suspect received minor injuries. All others involved were not injured.
