High school football playoffs set to kick off on Thursday

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The 2019 high school football playoffs kick off On Thursday for Class 11B and the 9-man football classes.

Sixty four teams will be in action including the St. Thomas More Cavaliers.

St. Thomas More will host Elk Point – Jefferson in the first round on Thursday at 6 p.m.

This will mark the third ever meeting between these two teams. The Cavaliers defeated the Huskies in the playoffs back in 2005 and 2006.

The Cavaliers enter the game with a 7-1 record.

The Cavaliers suffered their only loss this season back on August 30 against the Winner Warriors.

Although Elk Point – Jefferson is 4-4 on the season, STM head coach Wayne Sullivan expects a tough match-up on Thursday night.

“They are going to pound it at you,” STM football coach Wayne Sullivan said. “They have a very good offensive line. Some very good running backs and a quarterback. So they’ll run some options. They’ll run unbalance, run some counters, powers. Basically, I think they have three passing plays because they just want to pound it at you. So again, an East River team so you have to stop the run.”
