Here’s the latest look at Spearfish’s Fall Color Report

SPEARFISH, S.D. — Spearfish Canyon Enthusiast Kimberly Talcott brings us the latest Fall Color Report, reporting a color change of 40%. If you find yourself on the winding roads of Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway, you will find them lined with a sprinkling of golden leaves.

Talcott reports that birch and aspen trees are still mostly green, but that a few limbs on some of them are now transitioning into their fall hues. If you are looking for the best places to catch the colors, the two locations Talcott recommends are around Mile Marker 18 and the Long Valley Picnic Area.

At Long Valley, you can find various colors ranging from the purple and red groundcover, to contrasting deciduous and conifer trees.

Talcott even stumbled upon some mountain goats as she biked the canyon with her husband.
