Hardware stores stock up on winter storm essentials

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Hardware stores are feeling the early effects of the blizzard. Lots of customers rushed in to make sure they have all they need to make it through the next couple of days.

With the blizzard brewing, locals want to make sure they are prepared for any situation that comes their way. Most are going for the basics such as food and water. Others are thinking ahead and buying generators, snow removal machines, flashlights and more.

Staff at Knecht Home Center in Rapid City say it has been busy. So busy that they ran out of ice melt and shovels. As of now, they are expecting to receive a truck full of supplies on Wednesday morning, before the storm hits.

“We’ll have doors open and anything we can do to help them we will do it. We are expecting a major truck,” said General Manager Bryan Rice.

Along with snow supplies, they get customers looking for something to do on their snow day. A decent amount of people come in and buy materials for basic housework, so they can pass the time during the storm.

It is highly recommended that people stay at home and indoors. Conditions are expected to be brutal. Knecht will be open if you absolutely need to get supplies, and it is recommended that customers go before it starts to snow.
