Hardrockers hold on to beat Missouri S&T in season opener

RAPID CITY, S.D. –  The college football season has finally arrived.

South Dakota Mines opened the new year Thursday night by hosting Missouri University of Science and Technology.

The last time these two teams met was back in 2012 and the Miners defeated the Hardrockers by 49 points.

But this time was a different story.

South Dakota Mines built a 21 point lead heading into the fourth quarter and the Hardrockers held on to beat Missouri S&T, 34-31.

Jayden Johannsen completed 14 passes for 185 yards and one touchdown while adding 87 rushing yards.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Lewis rushed for 69 yards and one touchdown.

The Hardrockers will host Mayville State University on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m.
