Guns N’ Hoses Blood Drive happening next week
Vitalant is dealing with a blood supply shortage right now, so it’s the perfect time for our local police and fire departments to have a friendly competition. “We won last year so it’s 8 to 7 right now. And so this would be a good year for them to tie up and I’m okay with that, but you know obviously still want to win,” said Captain John Olson with the Rapid City Police Department. Brian Povandra with the Rapid City Fire Department says, “we lost by 94 last year. We’ve got some work to do, so I think it’s our year.”
This year the goal is to get 1,000 units of blood donated and while the RCPD won last year — both departments are hoping they can help reach that goal. “You know, we both respond to emergencies all the time and that need for blood since blood is used every couple of seconds in the united states, it’s good to have a blood supply so that we can actually save peoples’ lives,” says Capt. Olson. Povandra adds, “with the Coronavirus, donations have been down, so it’s a good time to get out and donate for a good cause.”
You can donate blood at this event this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and then on Friday from 7:45 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Rushmore Mall near mall security.
