Guests are “Rally” ready in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. — On Thursday, people were already flooding into the Black Hills for the start of the 80th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Although the official kick-off is on Friday, the fun has already begun.

People stay in Sturgis and the surrounding areas during the Rally. Riders come over from both near and far.

Each year there are hundreds of events to check out both in the City of Sturgis and in Rapid City. There are Poker Runs, where the sightseeing is endless.

When asked what their favorite part of the rally is, riders said this:

“The Black Hills, riding, the smell of the pine,” shares Pat Thompson, a rider from Colorado.

Tom Miller, a rider from Michigan, says, “The rides and meeting up with people that we’ve met in years before, just everything about it.”

Each year the Rally brings newcomers, but those newcomers often become veterans, coming back year after year.

Miller adding, “Since 1988, I’ve only missed two.”

What we’ve learned: there’s something for everyone, of all backgrounds, and from all parts of the world.
