Guess what the students at General Beadle Elementary chose to name the new K9 for RCPD

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Friday, January 13 was the day that the newest member of the RCPD K9 team got a name. The name? Hooni! Students at General Beadle Elementary School were the ones who chose the name.

The name is apparently a reference to Hoonigan, a racing organization founded by the late Ken Block. The name is a fitting one, because Hooni’s handler is also one of the emergency driving instructors.

Hooni is a three-year-old Dutch Shepherd who was born in the Netherlands. He and his handler, Sr. Officer Thompson, will be spending the next several months together to receive dual certification in patrol work and narcotics detection.

In case you were wondering, the runner-up names were Jupiter and Smokey.
