Guard soldiers back in Rapid City

Unit returns home after year in Middle East

RAPID CITY, S.D. – More than 90 South Dakota Army National Guard soldiers are back home after almost a year in the Middle East.

The Guard’s Company C, 1st Battalion, 189th Aviation Regiment returned to South Dakota after completing demobilization requirements in Fort Hood, Texas.

Overseas, the Rapid City-based unit provided aerial medical evacuation support with HH-60M Black Hawk helicopters to U.S. military and coalition forces.

“This unit exceeded all expectations throughout their deployment,” said Maj. Gen. Tim Reisch, adjutant general of the SDNG. “We are so thankful for their safe return to South Dakota.”

A welcome home ceremony is planned for early November, but no other details have been released.
