Great Plains Tribal Leaders’ Health Board to require COVID-19 vaccinations for all staff
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Great Plains Tribal Leaders’ Health Board CEO Jerilyn Church announced in a memo last week that all staff will be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by September 21.
The requirement includes all employees working under the Health Board, including Great Plains Tribal Epidemiology Center, Oyate Health Center, and the We Are Warriors EOC.
“In accordance with GPTLHB’s duty to provide and maintain a workplace that is free of known hazards, GPTLHB has adopted this policy to safeguard the health of our employees and their families, our relatives and visitors, and the community at large from infectious diseases that vaccinations reduce,” said Church.
The GPTLHB says about 74% of staff is currently vaccinated. The Tribal Epidemiology Center says that with the Delta variant on the rise, the “severity of the damage done by the spread of the Delta variant is highly dependent on immunity in the community.”
Recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the South Dakota Department of Health were taken into consideration.
Oyate Health offers vaccines Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at their LaCrosse Street location.
