Gov. Noem requests presidential disaster declaration

PIERRE, S.D. —  Governor Kristi Noem has requested a presidential disaster declaration for the continued damage in southeastern South Dakota.

The area has been continually ravaged by floods, and was recently hit by tornadoes. The natural disasters have damaged homes and businesses in addition to public infrastructure like parks, roads, highways, bridges and electrical systems.

The governor’s request includes at least 17 million dollars in federal assistance. This is the fifth major disaster declaration for South Dakota since May.
