Gov. Noem proclaims March 1st-7th to be Women in Construction Week

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Governor Kristi Noem has proclaimed March 1st through the 7th to be Women in Construction Week, honoring the women who are as tough as the nails they work with.

The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) has a Black Hills group, chapter 269. The seventeen members work a variety of construction jobs, all honored for breaking stigmas promoting women in trades.

“Growing up, a little girl, you always hear, oh you throw like a girl, oh you do this like a girl. But you know, I’m building stuff like a girl.” said construction intern Megan Snow.

An intern for Complete General Contracting, said construction intern Megan applied for a scholarship through Western Dakota Tech. She will be finished with school shortly after a nine month program, and is hoping to make a difference.

“I like to look at life as a book and every part of your life is a new chapter and eventually my end goal is to bring all my knowledge back into my community.” continued Snow, “And I would actually, eventually, like to be a shop teacher on Pine Ridge.”

NAWIC Black Hills chapter 269 will be hosting an event at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. They will be celebrating the week on Wednesday with Common Council member Chad Lewis.
