Golfing for a Cause
Dion Reid, a Golfer from Kentucky, is helping out St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital one swing at a time.
Dion Reid wanted to do something significant after turning 50 this year.
He worked on his plan over 2 years, which is golfing 50 courses in 50 days and raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, with a goal of $50,000. He has titled his adventure Golfing for a Cause, helping one swing at a time.
Monday was day 40 for him as he golfed at Arrowhead Country Club in Rapid City.
His adventure began late April in Nashville and will end in his hometown in Kentucky on June 17.th
His career as a software developer gives him flexibility to do this tour which is 50 rounds of golf in 50 days in 50 states – all for a worthwhile charity.
Reid says, “Obviously the kids get the short straw, I’m mean the kids never got the choice, you know, they don’t ask for any money from the families, they are just one of the best charities out there and you know my saying is “it’s for the kids.”
Reid is golfing for a cause under Xabula Charities Corporation that he created so he can do future projects for other organizations.
He says that golfing is a great way to visit all 50 states while helping out a good cause, “This is a fantastic course (Arrowhead), I just finished 9 holes. It’s beautiful, fantastic conditions so and I’ve had a lot of luck with courses, so it’s been fun.”
Reid also wears a different pair of Loud Mouth golf pants for each course, which he will auction off at the end to go to the charity.
He funded the trip with his own money so all proceeds go to the charity which has raised about 21,000 dollars so far.
