Golfers tee off at Red Rocks in support of affordable housing
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Scores of golfers braved Thursday’s cold, misty weather in the name of affordable housing.
144 players teed off at Red Rocks in the 12th annual “Tees for Keys” event for the Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity.
The goal? To raise money to build new homes and remodel existing ones.
Each year Tees for Keys raises enough money for one building package that goes towards a home.
Habitat’s Executive Director, Scott Engmann, says players were in good spirits for the event – though the weather wasn’t the only challenge for golfers.
“We’re really excited to be here out at Red Rocks, they’ve got a fantastic course and a great team out here. It’s challenging, so we tell people to bring some of your old golf balls cause they tend to get lost in this course,” Engmann said.
If you’d like help Habitat’s efforts, Engmann suggests looking into their Builders Club. You can join the Sustainable Giving Program by texting the word HOME to 26989 and join for as little as five-dollars a month.
