Giving Tuesday Now, a response to the need caused by COVID-19
#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.
SOUTH DAKOTA, — The first Tuesday after Thanksgiving is earmarked as Giving Tuesday, a movement to create an international day of charitable giving at the beginning of the holiday season.
But as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, non-profits across the world have been impacted, so in light of that -the national group that puts together Giving Tuesday has launched Giving Tuesday Now, to be recognized on Tuesday, May 5th.
Abbott House is participating in this event to encourage volunteerism and giving to a cause. In order to address the current needs caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, their impact is $5 per day, per child which could total upwards of $30,000 which is above and beyond the regular budget costs.
Helen Usera, Abbott House Assistant Development Director, says, “This gives us an opportunity, through Giving Tuesday Now to be able to tell people what is it that COVID-19 is doing because a lot of people are not aware of what this does to operations when there is a crisis, we serve kids from all over the state.”
