Giving Meters making a comeback in Rapid City

Those parking in downtown Rapid City will pay to park but will also be able to donate to several service organizations around the area.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — There’s a difference between giving money to a parking meter and donating money in a giving meter.

Giving meters are coming to downtown Rapid City this summer.

If you visit downtown and pay to park, you can also donate to several service organizations.

A total of ten green meters will be placed around downtown where you’ll be able to donate in a variety of ways.

“The whole goal is that people can give coin, they can use a card, or they can scan the QR code that’s going to be on the sign that’s going to be mounted to the meter and they can find out more about the organizations that will be benefiting those less fortunate and then also just another avenue to give,” said Domico Rodriguez, the Executive Director of Main Street Square.

The location of each giving meter needs to be the common council.
