Future of Rushmore Mall to breathe new life into the building
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rushmore Mall, or Uptown Rapid as it will be called, is going to serve as a major community hub for Rapid City residents.
“We’re going to be doing a little food court remodeling, we’re going to be changing the facade a little bit, fixing the roof, the parking lot,” General Manager Sandy Brockhouse explained. “So, we’re going to be doing some things to spruce it up, but we are also going to be working on getting more mixed uses in here.”
The company works in 11 states, specializing in shopping center sectors. For Rapid City, the plan is to turn Rushmore Mall into a place not only for shopping, but entertainment and more. There are even plans to establish housing on the property.
“This is going to be the one-stop shop for all things. We want the community feel,” Brockhouse explained. “We want this to be the gathering place where the community comes to shop, to come to a fun little event in center court, to grab their lunch.”
The name change to Uptown Rapid will be official by early next year. The housing, entertainment spaces, and other possible new attractions and stores will come within the next three years.
