Further federal assistance a posibility for South Dakota

PIERRE, S.D. — There may be more federal assistance on the way to South Dakota with the possibility of more stimulus checks.

In a tele-townhall Wednesday with South Dakota’s congressional delegation, Senator John Thune announced another round of stimulus checks could be a possibility in the future. But first an assessment needs to be done to see how Americans are weathering the storm.

“There would be sympathy for perhaps a second round of payments if we get through the next few weeks and we’re still in a tough spot economically and things continue to go sideways on us.” said Sen. Thune.

Congressman Dusty Johnson said that there’s broad interest on keeping individuals off of the social safety net programs, as it takes years to regain footing and is detrimental to the economy.
