Fundraiser hopes to deliver over 200 coats for children in need

RAPID CITY, S.D. — For the fifth year the Knights of Columbus of Saint Therese Council 8025 held its Coats for kids fundraiser.

Last year they raised enough to provide coats for over 100 kids in the Black Hills, but this year they expect even more. On Saturday 12 teams hit the Meadwood Lanes to bowl and raise the money.

The donation was 20 dollars per person or 80 dollars per team, and with that each team received three games. Not only did they bowl for a charitable cause, but there were also chances to win prizes.

At the end of the day all of the money donated goes towards Coats for Kids, which in turn goes to the Children’s Home Society in Rockerville.

My favorite part is people having fun out here,” said Jerry Kanta, treasurer of St. Therese Council 8025. “But the most favorite part is delivering the coats and seeing the faces on the people that are receiving them and they tell us stories about how it may be that child’s first new coat.”

They’re hoping to raise enough give out over 200 coats this year.
