Friday’s Baseball Roundup: Post 22 edges Billings at Veterans Classic
RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Veterans Classic baseball tournament kicked off on Thursday at Fitzgerald Stadium.
But Post 22 had wait until Friday night to play its first game. The Hardhats were suppose to play Northern Colorado but the team was a no show.
So Post 22 squared off against the Billings Royals on Friday.
It was a hard fought game with Post 22 coming out on top, 3-2.
The Hardhats jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning. Ryan Bachman doubled to right-center field, scoring Mason Messinger.
Then Bachman would later score to give Post 22 a 2-0 lead.
Isaac Arnold was the winning pitcher for Post 22. He lasted five and a third innings, allowing one hit, two runs while striking out nine.
Post 22 improves to 12-6 on the season. The Hardhats will play Billings again on Saturday, June 8 at 4 p.m. followed by a game against Bozeman at 7 p.m.
Saturday, June 8 is also ‘First Responders” night at the Veterans Classic. Police cars and fire trucks will be on display. Plus, a Rapid City police officer will throw out the first pitch and a first responder will sing the national anthem.
