Free COVID test kits available during the Sturgis Rally

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Monument Health is joining forces with the South Dakota Department of Health to slow the spread of COVID during the Sturgis Rally.

The agencies are providing free test kits for visitors, and the self-test kits will be available to anyone who may have been exposed to COVID or is experiencing symptoms.

The tests are to be used at home, and a prescription is not needed to get one.

Test-takers will have results within 15 minutes of swabbing their nose and placing the sample in a vial.

Residents and visitors who want the test will need to provide their name and physical location in Sturgis to the City Hall staff.

“Anyone who is looking to rule out that you have COVID really quick, so again, it’s a screening tool so if you have symptoms we would still want you to utilize any of our drive through locations within monument healthcare testing,” said Emily Leech, Director of Laboratory Services at Monument Health.

Leech stresses that a negative test result does not necessarily mean you’re virus free as false negatives are possible.

Anyone outside of Sturgis interested in a test kit can contact Visit Rapid City or the Black Hills and Badlands Tourism Association.
