Free COVID-19 testing event to be held in Rapid City

PIERRE, S.D. — Free COVID-19 testing will be available to those who want to get tested in Rapid City.

In partnership with the South Dakota National Guard and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the South Dakota Department of Health will provide the free testing event to the public via a drive-thru COVID-19 testing site at the Central States Fairgrounds, located at 800 San Francisco Street.

Testing will be available from November 20 thru November 22. Testing will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Friday, November 20, and will end on Monday, November 23. The testing on Monday will take place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Pre-registration is required to secure a testing time. You can register here.

After registering, individuals will receive an appointment and test voucher that will need to be printed and brought to the testing site. Those without appointments will only be testing if time slots are not full.

Testing locations will use a self-administered nasal swab for specimen collection that allows individuals to swab their own nose, supervised by trained medical staff.

Results will be delivered in three to five business days. People who are tested will receive an email notification when results are available and can click here to view or print laboratory results.

While awaiting test results, individuals should follow CDC guidelines and take steps to help prevent spreading the virus to people in their home or the community.
