Four arrested for trespassing following Land Back protest

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Police Department says that four adults were arrested for Trespassing following the Land Back protest downtown on Sunday night.

The climbers scaled the Dakota Mill and Grain Tower at 426 Omaha Street and released an upside-down flag with “Land Back” written across it. The owners of that property were not aware of the climbers plans and did not give their permission.

“Local law enforcement made countless attempts to work with organizers of this demonstration,” says Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom. “It was clear halfway through the course of the event that organizers intended to deceive us about the plan for and extent of the demonstration.”

Police say the nearly six-hour demonstration “took up a large amount of public safety resources.”

Rapid City Police say the case has been sent to the Pennington County State’s Attorney’s Office.
