Fort Thompson man sentenced for assault with a knife

PIERRE, S.D. — A Fort Thompson man was sentenced this month after being convicted of assaulting another person with a knife and then beating him.

Rain Blaine, 19, was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison, 2 years supervised release and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund of $100.

The conviction stems from an incident on June 24 of 2018 when Blaine became upset during a conversation with another individual.

He stabbed the individual with a knife in the abdomen and then dropped the knife and began physically assaulting the victim with his hands and feet.

The victim had to be airlifted to Sioux Falls to be treated for his injuries.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Crow Creek Agency.

Blaine was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following his sentencing.
