Former State’s Attorney Prosecutor sworn in as Seventh Circuit Judge

A new Seventh Court Circuit Judge has been sworn in.

Judge Sarah Morrison was sworn in as a Magistrate Judge on Friday evening at the Pennington County Courthouse.

Morrison is a local prosecutor from Rapid City. She attended Stevens High School before going on to Vanderbilt University and the University of Minnesota Law School.

Before becoming a Seventh Circuit Judge, Morrison served as a prosecutor for the State’s Attorney Office with a focus on juvenile cases.

According to Morrison, the new position will be an exciting challenge.

“I’m definitely more comfortable in these courtrooms than if I took this type of job in a different circuit or a different state. But I have a lot to learn. It’s going to be a completely different role, but I’m excited for the opportunity.”

As a Magistrate Judge Morrison will deal with bond hearings for initial appearances, misdemeanors, small claims and protection order hearings.
