Former Rapid City priest sentenced on multiple charges

RAPID CITY, S.D — A former Rapid City Catholic priest is heading to federal prison for stealing from three parishes, and now he also faces sex charges.

Marcin Garbacz was sentenced on Monday to seven years and nine months. He was convicted in March of more than 60 charges, including money laundering, wire fraud, and filing a false tax return.

Garbacz must also pay about $259,000 in restitution to the three parishes, as well as $16,000 to the IRS.

Meanwhile, he also faces child sex charges.

Garbacz is accused of having sexual contact with a minor and possessing child pornography.

An FBI agent came across the child porn on a thumb drive during the financial crimes investigation.
