Former Fall River Co. sheriff’s deputy accused of sexually exploiting two minors

EDGEMONT, S.D. – A former Fall River County Deputy is facing multiple federal charges for allegedly having inappropriate relations with two underage females.

Francis Kistler, 60, of Edgemont is charged with two counts each of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor, attempted enticement of a minor using the internet, and transfer of obscene material to a minor.

Kistler was arrested Aug. 16 and made his first court appearance the following Monday, where he pleaded not guilty to each charge.

The case remains sealed but according to family of one of the victims, Kistler sent the minors nude photos and videos between January and July.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office confirms that Kistler was a Fall River County Deputy. NewsCenter1 reached out to the Fall River Sheriff’s Office numerous times to find out how long he worked for the sheriff’s office, but has not received an answer.

If convicted, Kistler faces between 15 to 30 years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine or both.
