Former BHSU player named Spearfish girls basketball coach

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Spearfish High School Activities Department announced on Thursday that Dakota Barrie has been hired as the Spearfish girls basketball head coach.

Barrie, originally from Mountain Home, Idaho, played four years for the Black Hills State University women’s basketball team from 2011-2015.

Last year, she coached the Sioux Falls Roosevelt girls basketball team and led the Rough Riders to an 8-12 record.

Barrie inherits a Spearfish team that finished 7-13 last season and lost to Aberdeen Central in the SoDak 16.

She replaces Eric Lappe who resigned following the end of this season.
