Football Week 5: Stevens shuts out Aberdeen Central, Douglas upsets Harrisburg

The first week of the high school football season wasn’t exactly perfect for the Rapid City Stevens football team. But after losing their season opener to Sioux Falls Roosevelt, the Raiders have won two straight.

The Raiders were hoping to make it three in a row on Friday night as they hosted Aberdeen Central for homecoming.

A year ago, the Raiders defeated the Golden Eagles in a close game, 16-14. This year, Stevens was hoping for the same outcome.

Cody BeVier opened the second half for the Raiders with a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Then with the Golden Eagles threatening in the fourth quarter, Jalen Johnson comes up with a big interception and Stevens goes on to beat Aberdeen Central, 14-0.

Meanwhile, Douglas upset top-ranked Harrisburg, 14-13.

Chance Sorensen put the Patriots ahead on a 45-yard touchdown run in the second half.

Harrisburg scored a touchdown late in the game. But the Tigers decided to go for two instead of kicking an extra point and they failed.

St. Thomas More improved to 2-2 on the year with a win over Sturgis on Friday night, 36-0.

The Cavaliers scored midway through the first quarter with a 41-yard touchdown run by Ross Skinner.

Ryder Kirsch also threw two touchdown passes in the first half. One to Jake Bohnenkamp and the other to Thomas Rafferty.
