FOOTBALL: Sturgis clinches playoff berth with win over Douglas

BOX ELDER, S.D. – The Douglas Patriots hosted the Sturgis Scoopers on Thursday in high school football.

It was the final game of the regular season for both teams and a very important contest for the Scoopers.

Sturgis was fighting for the eighth and final playoff spot in Class 11AA.

The Scoopers dominated from the beginning and defeated the Patriots,  40-13.

Since Sturgis won and Mitchell defeated Huron in overtime, the Scoopers are heading to the postseason.

Sturgis will have a tough challenge now as the Scoopers play No. 1 Tea Area in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Oct. 28.

Back on Sept. 3, Sturgis lost to Tea Area 52-0.

Meanwhile, Douglas wraps up the season with an 0-9 record.
