Flooding leads to evacuations along Sheridan Lake Road
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Evacuations are underway along Sheridan Lake Road due to flooding. Currently, areas near Mountain Park Road and Rockwood Road are of most concern.
According to Whispering Pines Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Jeremy Walla, about twenty homes have either been evacuated or will soon be evacuated.
He says that conditions are only expected to get worse in the next several hours.
Water has already begun flowing over the banks of ditches and the creek is very fast and wide. Many private drives and roads are flooded to the point of being too dangerous to cross.
Walla says anyone near the area of Mountain Park Road and Rockwood Road should take action and evacuate, or make a plan.
Additionally Lower Spring Creek Road by Hart Ranch will soon be closing. The photos below show Mulligan Mile headed into the housing development. Officials are asking people to avoid the area.
