Five fire departments called to mobile home fire in Box Elder

BOX ELDER, S.D. — Five fire departments were called out to a mobile home fire in Box Elder Wednesday afternoon.

Fireighters were able to contain the flames before they spread beyond the home, which is located in an open field near 225th Street. Two people in the mobile home were able to get out and were not injured.

Police blocked off traffic while firefighters were on scene. The North Haines, Ellsworth, Rapid Valley and New Underwood Fire Departments came out to assist the Box Elder firefighters.

The Red cross is helping provide assistance to the two people in the home.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, though the grassland fire danger index was very high Wednesday, with very low moisture and high winds.
