Five developments in Summerset will bring nearly 1,000 homes

City leaders say single family homes, apartments, luxury apartments and multifamily units are in the works.

SUMMERSET, S.D. — Look for a lot of homes to start sprouting in Summerset, about a thousand in five developments.

City leaders say single family homes, apartments, luxury apartments and multifamily units are in the works.

The developments are still in the early stages, dealing with things such as building permits and the city’s sewer expansion project.

The 2020 census shows that Summerset’s population grew about 20% from 2010, to about 3,000 people.

The developments will play a key role in the community’s growth.

“If you’re using current household numbers, if we if we if we increase that by 990 housing units, we’re we’re anticipating 990 more households, so that’s essentially going to double our population,” said Mayor Melanie Torno of Summerset.

Mayor Torno says the city is expecting the homes to be completed in the next three to three-and-a-half years.
