First Black Hills COVID-19 case confirmed

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Monument Health on Tuesday night confirmed the first positive COVID-19 test result in the Black Hills.

According to a Monument Health spokesperson, the patient is a resident of Meade County and is a Monument Health caregiver in Rapid City. The spokesperson says Monument is working through protocols to inform and  isolate everyone who has been in direct contact with the patient.

Monument also says the patient is known to have contracted the virus while traveling within the United States.

“We’re providing every available resource to the South Dakota Department of Health for this investigation,” said the spokesperson. “We’ve been preparing for positive COVID-19 patients in our communities. We will follow our capacity and emergency plans to scale our operations to meet the community’s needs.”
