Fire crews battle garbage truck fire Monday morning

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A garbage truck caught fire Monday morning off of Promise Road, prompting a response from three fire engines.

Engine 6 arrived on scene first and began attacking the fire before Engine 4 arrived to combat the increased fire load from the garbage truck. The two engines established a water source to fight the fire.

Engine 7 was called in to assist, and they cut a hole in the side of the truck so the crews could get to the garbage and make sure everything was extinguished.
