Fire at M Hill

Fire crews were called to Rapid City's M Hill overnight after a report of a spreading grass fire.

At about 11pm Tuesday, several area Fire Departments responded to a call of smoke and flames on M Hill near the 1300 block of Founder's Bend.

According to the Battalion Chief, Jerry Riekert, the flames were a result of fireworks being ignited on the dry, grassy hill.

The fire burned about one half acre before crews were able to fully extinguish the flames.

Riekert cited favorable winds as a factor in keeping the fire contained.
As of about 2:30am, the flames had been completely extinguished and fire crews began leaving the scene.
Crews will return during daylight hours to further assess the scene.
