Feeding South Dakota consolidating food distribution

RAPID CITY, S.D. — In order to serve a rising number of people in need of food assistance, Feeding South Dakota will cancel all regularly scheduled neighborhood food distributions in Rapid City and Rapid Valley.

Feeding South Dakota will instead replace the distribution method by incorporating one weekly distribution to be hold on Wednesday, April 1 from 10 A.M. to noon at the Central States Fairgrounds. The distribution will take place in drive-through fashion with each family receiving one box of food, with a maximum of two boxes of food per vehicle.

Photo ID’s will not be necessary, but staff of Feeding South Dakota will ask for and track a list of first and last names, household size and will also ask for a verbal declaration of household income as government food commodities may be added to the distribution menu.

Guests are welcome to visit the site once every week.

The change was necessary in order to ensure the safety of Feeding South Dakota’s staff, volunteers and guests in need of food. The change was also necessary because the current and future demand for food resources would have soon outweighed the ability of the organization to provide the food if the change was not implemented.
