FBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Oglala

Ost DpsOGLALA, S.D. — The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Saturday morning on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

The Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety said in a release that around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, July 17 officers were dispatched to a location in the 1500 block of Highway 41 in Oglala for a possible domestic violence situation.

After arriving at the scene, an OST DPS officer located a male who was deceased, and then someone brandished a weapon in the presence of the officer. That subject was shot, sustaining non-life threatening injuries, before being taken into custody.

The officer involved was not injured.

OST DPS says that per protocol and policy, the FBI is investigating the entire event, and they cannot comment further on an on-going investigation.
