Fatal two-vehicle crash in Dewey County

RIDGEVIEW, S.D. — One person died Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash west of Ridgeview.

At about 9:30 p.m. Saturday a Peterbilt semi-truck pulling an empty grain trailer was westbound on Highway 212. As it prepared to turn left the semi-truck was struck by a westbound 1994 Ford F350 pickup, which slid into the ditch and rolled.

The 61-year-old driver of the Ford, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. the 16-year-old passenger of the Ford was wearing a seat belt and received minor injuries — he was transported to a clinic in Eagle Butte.

The 45-year-old driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
