Fatal pedestrian collision south of Cheyenne

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A fatal pedestrian collision happened just outside of Cheyenne on Saturday night.

Shortly before midnight, Wyoming Highway Patrol responded to the crash at milepost 0 on US Highway 85.

A northbound Hyundai Sonata was traveling on the highway when the driver noticed two pedestrians on the road, standing in the emergency and driving lanes. The driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian in the driving lane and collided with him.

The pedestrian, Charles MacDonald of Lovonia, Michigan, died at the scene of the crash. Alcohol use on MacDonald’s part is being investigated as a possible contributing factor.

This is the 83rd fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2019 compared to 49 in 2018, 72 in 2017, and 45 in 2016 to date.
