Fatal motorcycle crash near Lead leaves one dead, another injured

LEAD, S.D. — One person died and another was injured in a motorcycle crash that occurred Friday, June 26 about three miles west of Lead.

Names of the two people involved are not being released as this time until proper notification has been given to family members.

Around 4:40 p.m., a 2004 Harley Davidson FLSTCI was heading eastbound on U.S. Highway 14 when the driver failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. The motorcycle went into the right ditch and eventually tipped over.

Both occupants were thrown from the motorcycle. The 42-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene while the passenger, a 42-year-old female, sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. She was transported to the Deadwood hospital via ambulance. Helmet use for both occupants is under investigation.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol continue to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this pint.
