Fatal head-on crash south of Gillette

GILLETTE, Wyo. — A fatal head-on crash occurred south of Gillette, Wyoming on Monday afternoon.

Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched at 4:25 p.m. to mile marker 23 on Wyoming Highway 50. At the scene, a northbound Dodge Ram had drifted into the southbound lane and collided with a southbound Honda Odyssey.

The Honda’s driver, a 29-year-old who was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, died of his injuries at the scene of the crash. The two passengers in the vehicle, 24 and 25 years old, were also wearing their seat belts and were transported to the Campbell County Memorial Hospital for injuries. All three were Michigan residents.

The driver of the Dodge, a 33-year-old Casper, Wyoming resident, was wearing her seat belt and was transported to the Campbell County Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

Driver inattention on the part of the Dodge driver is being investigated as a possible contributing factor.

This is the 87th fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2019 compared to 54 in 2018, 76 in 2017, and 49 in 2016 to date.
