Fatal two-vehicle crash south of Watertown

WATERTOWN, S.D. — One person died Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash south of Watertown on U.S. Highway 81.

The crash occurred just before 1 p.m. on Saturday when a GMC Yukon travelling on Highway 22 made an illegal lane change to cross Highway 81. The vehicle collided with a Ford F-150 travelling south on Highway 81.

The 82-year-old male driver of the Yukon was not wearing his seatbelt. He was partially ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford, a 63-year-old female, was wearing her seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.

The names of both drivers have not been released, pending notification of family.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
