Fassbender photography collection coming to Journey Museum

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Journey Museum and Learning Center is hosting a discussion on Friday, Feb. 15 about the Fassbender Photographic Collection at 12 p.m.

Led by Richard Carlson, the presentation will give an overview of the Fassbender Collection before focusing on unique stories from the ’30s and ’40s.

Carlson is the digital archivist of the Fassbender Collection in Deadwood. Carlson will discuss prominent figures such as George Sitts, the only person in South Dakota to be executed using the electric chair, and parachutist George Hopkins, who was stranded for six days after a successful landing on top of Devil’s Tower.

The discussion is part of the Journey Museum’s Turtle Soup presentation series. For more scheduling information visit www.journeymuseum.org.
