Family of missing woman says evidence recovered in search

PORCUPINE, N.D. — The family of a woman missing on the Standing Rock Reservation says a search has turned up evidence in her disappearance.

Volunteers joined law enforcement in their search for 30-year-old Kara Lynn Mauai this week. The Fort Yates woman was last seen Nov. 8 in the Selfridge area.

Family spokeswoman Sheridan McNeil says clothing belonging to Mauai was found in Porcupine near tribal housing on Monday. McNeil says the clothes were taken by the Bureau of Indian Affairs for further testing. The Bureau of Indian Affairs and the woman’s family have declined to comment on whether foul play is suspected in Mauai’s disappearance.

The mother of three is a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
