Fall festival to feature beer stock exchange and more than 70 brews

RAPID CITY, SD – A beer stock exchange will be set up at Main Street Square’s eighth annual Bierbörse, a German beer and culture celebration, on Saturday, Oct. 6, from noon to 6 p.m., presented by 605 Magazine.

Try a selection of beers in two microbrew tents, participate in a beer stock exchange at the Bud Light Beverage Garden, taste authentic German food, dance to the musical stylings of the Polkanauts, test your strength in a stein holding competition, team up for keg bowling and more.

“We’ve added some really fun and exciting activities for this year’s Bierbörse attendees,” said Elizabeth Smith, events director of Main Street Square. “In between dancing to polka music, the stein holding competition and teaming up for keg bowling, you can check out how your favorite beers are faring in the beer stock exchange.”

In the beer stock exchange, the price of beer will vary from $2 to $8, and price is dependent on demand. For example, if Crow Peak Eleventh Hour is very popular, the price will rise. If no one is drinking Shock Top Sunset Orange, the price will plummet and possibly crash. When a beer’s value is low, it will cost a minimum of $2. If it is high in demand, it may cost up to $8.

The event is free and open to all ages. Only those 21 years of age and older, with a valid ID, may consume alcohol. Main Street Square promotes drinking responsibly.

The event passes gain entry to try more than 70 beers in two microbrew tents, open from 2 to 6 p.m. Passes are $35 in advance and $40 at the event and are required to enter the microbrew tents. Pre-sale passes are available for purchase until noon on Friday, Oct. 5, online at MainStreetSquareRC.com, by calling 605-716-7979 or at the Main Street Square office at 512 Main St., Ste. 980.

A limited number of passes are available. Each pass holder will receive an unlimited wrist band and a souvenir 5-ounce beer stein. Pre-sale passes and souvenir steins will be available at Will Call the day of the event in the Visitor Information Center located on the north side of Main Street Square. Passes may also be purchased at this location on the day of the event.

The Bud Light Beverage Garden, a division of Quality Brands, will be open to the public beginning at noon and available to those who do not wish to purchase a pass.
