Faces in the Crowd: Tiffany Johnson

Singer/Songwriter Tiffany Johnson is making her way into the music industry with one significant factor: perseverance.

“I started singing and writing songs when I was eight years old. And ever since I was little, I would kind of go around the house and just sing whatever I was doing, whether it was picking up my bedroom or cleaning my house … then I really started to write and structure songs when I was about eight years old. I got my first guitar, learned my first chords and started performing,” says Johnson.

Tiffany was hooked on the thrill of being on stage and the feeling while singing her own songs and taking every opportunity to perform. Now at 15 years old, Tiffany is in between worlds of her high school life and chasing her dreams as a performer. The support from family and friends makes her crazy schedule more bearable – receiving encouragement and guitar lessons from her father who is also a musician.

Last year Tiffany went to Nashville to attend a songwriting camp.  She has also performed at famous venues like the Bluebird Café and Douglas Corner Café. She recently won the Nashville Songwriters Association International Best of Tin Pan South Festival for her song “Paralyzed.”

She also had the opportunity to rub elbows with other songwriters and industry professionals at the worlds largest songwriting festival. She’s headed back this summer.

After the high of winning — she came home and got back to work.

“So right when I got back from Nashville, I released my song “Paralyzed” and after it won this award and then as soon as that was released, I basically started working on my next song that I was going to release. And it’s just a never ending cycle of songs,” says Johnson.

During her start in the business, she became frustrated with people telling her she was just too young. Her advice to any young performer is to keep reaching for the stars.

Johnson emphasizes, “Persistence — that’s just the word you need to know and it’s hard and it’s gonna be hard, but if you stay in the game long enough and you stick your foot in the door —whenever you can, it will turn out good for you … just keep on keeping on,” says Johnson.

She is leading by example. “Ultimately I want to travel around the world and be able to perform and sing my own songs on like big tours in front of lots of people, that’s always been the ultimate goal is shooting for the stars you know.”
