Extra deputies hired to help with Sturgis overflow

With the 75th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally numbers expected to be on the rise, law enforcement needs a little extra help.

For the second year in a row, the Pennington County Sheriff's Office is hiring special deputies to assist with the overflow crowds that attend the rally. Many of the new deputies are not even from South Dakota, but they take vacation time from their own departments to come work the rally. Deputy Sheriff Preston Crissey says, "You know from inside Sturgis to out here in Pennington County, it's a little bit lower key, but in law enforcement anything happens at any time. A lot more people coming out for the 75th, so we are excited just to kind of get out and meet the people. Not everybody is bad, there is a lot of great people out there. We're kind of looking forward to getting out and showing people what we are really about in law enforcement."

In 2014, nine extra deputies were hired to deal with the rally spillover as a trial run.
