Explore state parks and fish for free this weekend
CUSTER, S.D. — Want to give fishing a try without having to commit to a license first? This weekend you can!
Starting Friday through Sunday, it’s free fishing weekend in South Dakota. That means for this weekend only, South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks are waving fishing license requirements. This makes for a great opportunity to explore the fishing diversity in area lakes, streams and rivers.
It’s also a free open house for all state parks, so you can drop a line and explore the parks for free.
Custer State Park Superintendent Matt Snyder says, “It’s a great opportunity to get the dust off the lines and the poles, and bring them out with the family and come out and see what you can catch.”
If it turns out fishing is your thing, an annual license for residents is $28. Seniors get a discount, only costing them $12 and youth under 18 are not required to be licensed.
